ARMM celebrates 21st National Children's month

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, Oct. 1 (PIA) --- Officials and employees of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) marked the start of the observance of the 21st National Children’s Month this October with an opening program on Monday, September 30, that highlighted the theme “”Kahirapan Wakasan, Karapatan ng Bata Ipaglaban."

Section 13, Article II of Presidential Proclamation No. 267 declares the month of October as a national celebration month for children to be acquainted with their vital roles in the nation as well as to promote and protect their moral, physical, spiritual, intellectual and social well-being.

“Apart from promoting the rights of children, we want to recognize and accentuate their role in nation building,” Haroun Alrashid Lucman, ARMM vice-governor and concurrent secretary of the region’s Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said.

DSWD-ARMM takes the lead in celebrating children’s month in the region.
Lucman said conflict and poverty expose children in the region to rights violations and other deprivations.

“We want to secure them from these vulnerabilities. The reforms we are working on should lead to an environment that allows every child in the region to enjoy his or her rights,” he said. (BPI-ARMM)
